I used to think of myself as an “avid reader”. That is, until I got married and realized that Brittany can tear through a book in a weekend that takes me weeks to finish.
Don’t get me wrong; I love to read. Ever since I first discovered chapter books I’ve been hooked. I was one of those kids that was reading at a so-called “college level” in grade school.
But I am also in the habit of reading in very short bursts. I read a few pages at a time here and there while I’m doing something else, on a break at work, etc.
The only time I would really sit down and dig into a book in big chunks was if I had to for school or work.
There are currently a lot of books on my shelves that I want to finish, so I’ve decided to keep track of all my stuff over on Good Reads. Head on over and add me as a friend if you are interested. My shelves here refer to both the physical wooden ones in my office and bedroom, and the digital one that resides on my Kindle.
My plan is to write little mini-reviews of what I’m reading as I go for further motivation.
I’m also getting back into listening to audiobooks. I have had an account with Audible for years now and love the service. I’ve slowed down a little in my listening as my commute time is no longer over an hour. My job still lends itself to listening to music, podcasts or audiobooks, just not quite as well as in the past.
I’m not going nuts, since life is busy these days. My goal is to get through about four books a month, which includes audiobooks.
Here is what I’m currently working on:
The Hobbit (Re-Reading)
On Stranger Tides
The Non-Designer’s Design Book
Altered Carbon
